About Northernair Lodge
Our Story
Established in 1930, Northernair Lodge has welcomed generations of guests to its peaceful setting on Mitchell Lake. Originally built as a logging camp, it was converted to a resort in the 1950's and had a popular restaurant and bar in the lodge for many years. While the cabins have been thoughtfully updated over the years, the lodge has remained true to its rustic roots and Northwoods charm.
The 14 cabins at Northernair are generously nestled among the trees along the shoreline of Mitchell Lake. Each cabin is unique, and special in its own way. They vary in size from 1–5 bedrooms. All cabins have modern kitchens with full-size refrigerators, microwaves, toasters and a coffee maker. Our historic log cabins were built in the 1930’s, and additional cabins have been added over the years, with the most recent addition in 2021.
For nearly a century, families have returned to enjoy the fishing, wildlife, and simple beauty that make Northernair a timeless Minnesota retreat.
All cabins have a private screen porch or deck, and all have access to a private or shared dock. A charcoal grill and fire pit are located outside each cabin.
Complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout the resort.

Fishing
Mitchell Lake is teeming with walleye, northern pike, and panfish—ideal for both seasoned anglers and first-timers. Cast your line from your private dock or head out on the water for a full day of adventure.
Beach
Our sandy beach is perfect for sunbathing, building sandcastles, or just relaxing by the water with a good book. It’s a favorite hangout for families and a peaceful spot to watch the sunset.
Sauna
Enjoy a rejuvenating session in our lakeside sauna—warm up after a swim, or simply relax and unwind after a day outdoors. It’s a quiet, cozy escape nestled right by the water.
Lodge
The main lodge is your home away from home, offering books, games, local information, and cozy places to gather. Whether you're planning your next hike or playing a board game with the kids, it's a great place to connect.
Hiking
Step right into the wilderness with easy access to scenic trails in the Superior National Forest. From short, family-friendly walks to longer adventures, there’s a trail for everyone.
Fat Tire Bikes
Explore the resort and nearby paths on our fat tire bikes. These are perfect for all terrains and all seasons, whether you're cruising dirt roads or packed snow trails.

Dogs are welcome for an extra $35/Day or $200/week.
